Safe working practices for renovators

With the current renovation boom, the NSW Government wants to help ensure that homeowners and renovators are aware of the risks associated with removing asbestos materials, such as fibro sheets, from their homes. 

Asbestos can be very hazardous to your health. Home renovators are strongly encouraged to obtain information on asbestos and to adopt safe working practices when renovating, especially when working on older homes.

The Government has released a brochure on asbestos, Fibro & Asbestos - A Renovator and Homeowner’s Guide. Copies of the brochure are available from Fair Trading Centres and local councils. The brochure can also be downloaded from the NSW Government website. This website also contains additional useful information including a section on Frequently Asked Questions.

WorkCover

WorkCover is the agency responsible for regulating the occupational health and safety aspects associated with the removal of asbestos in workplaces. It licenses asbestos removal contractors and publishes a range of information including brochures on ‘Living with Fibro’ and ‘Your Guide to Working with Asbestos’.
